hi everybody it is a snowy day here in Missouri it is uh January 9th or 10th or so and um I’m wanting to do a lesson today with champ and Oliver they’re over there in the pin together on working as a team and um my goal I’m going to drive them separate for or together without hooking them to anything first then I’m going to use this breaking sled here and uh it’s just it’s just a real simple design I made up myself out of materials I had so it’s just a 6×6 cut at an angle with a piece of 3/4 in plywood on top chain lag bolted down
to this to the front I’ve got a hook here I can hook on to the single tree and the eveners that I bought and then I just have a little little hunting stool screwed down to the back to where it pulls easier and I’ve pulled it with Oliver by himself he Lo and he does real well he acted like he enjoyed it and champ has pulled a things before so if I can get them just driving in hand as a team which I’ve done once before and uh it started out horrible had a little bit of a wreck really but then got it straightened out and drove
them for half hour they did real well together and I had them hooked up wrong cuz I don’t know what I’m doing so I had the rains um their split rains like the left rain splits in a V and goes to the left side of Oliver’s bit and the left side of Champ’s bit well I ran the left side that goes to Oliver’s bit through his left hande uh loop and the left side that goes to Champ bit I ran through his left side hang Loop that is wrong um lessons learn you know you if you don’t make mistakes you don’t grow so both the left
side ones should go on Oliver’s through Oliver’s hang loops and like through his right loop on his right hand then to Champ’s left side of his bit the right side both go through Champ’s H loops and his left one or inner one go goes to Oliver’s right side of his bit so that’s what I did wrong last time and then I also um tried hooking them up with the uh Yol to keep them separated this time I’m going to use a string between their halters that worked a lot better after after I learned those lessons so um I
don’t know if um you’re an expert and keyboard Warrior and you want to comment how stupid I was well you know what there was probably probably a time when you didn’t know everything either and made mistakes um so that was my first mistake to uh you know learning this on my own and I’ll correct them and get better and I’ve got the two horses to make mistakes with they’re gentle and responsive and I can do just about anything with them so it’s good set to learn on oh here comes Isaac what’s he doing walking his
dog this is Isaac’s favorite hobby right now remote controlled trucks okay um both the boys is over here and hopefully the snow balling up in their Hooves isn’t a problem I’ll give them a good grooming oh hi bud hi champ you’re so sweet hi yeah hello good boy uh both of their Bridal passs are real long I’ll probably trim those up and uh clean their hoves out and everything before we go might even spray a little Pam in their hoves that’s an old trick to keep their feet from balling up with snow while you’re
working them don’t know how well it works but better to try something than nothing um I don’t have help filming today so I’m going to go ahead and shut this off get them both tied up and then I’ll maybe show you a time lapse of the grooming process [Music] [Applause] I [Music] okay so I’ve got them both tacked up and I’m going to take champ for a little ride not ride sorry I’m going to drive him around the driveway and barn lot here by himself just to make sure he’s tuned up I know Oliver is trained well
enough I don’t have to worry about him but Champ’s still new to this so I’m going to tune him up by himself for just a minute kind of remind him what woe and stand and away and come by are also I’ll use that time to check out how well his feet are balling up with snow or not see if I have to do something special with that today each snow is different some snows you have to do something some snows don’t walk Bud come by good good boy yep he’s being good I thought he would be okay are we good boy
expertly done champ for a beginner he did very well enough miles on him and he’ll quit that head tossing okay here goes our attempt away walk easy walk boys you’re okay quit champ you’re okay easy that’s good boys just going to have to do some miles of this get them where I trust them easy easy just walk holer wanting to go and I’m sweating hope I don’t fall down there’s ice underneath this snow might have to get out to my mom’s field or go down some trails that aren’t packed with ice easy Oliver yeah this is too slick I’m
turning back okay away easy away away Oliver away good walk up champ I know there will be some comments about champ flipping his nose and people worried about him not accepting the bit the right way or thinking that he may need dental work or something wrong with his mouth or thinking he may need to be worked bitless it’s none of those things it’s just that he’s a 2-year-old stallion that that is not accustomed to wearing a bridal yet he has to learn to hold the bit in his mouth and accept it and within a 30 minutes of working with
him each time he learns to do that pretty soon it won’t be a problem at all walk up [Music] ol away [Music] away away straight up [Music] [Music] you’re doing a lot better good I’m not not 100% sure but I think I’ve seen working horses with Jim hook the insides up first then the outsides and my thought is since this horse is a lot smaller I’m going to hook him all the way out and all over on the third length so that it kind of evens them up anyway it’s about right stand there boys I started with the sled empty just
to let them know that there was going to be some weight to those tugs and to give them a second to get used to it but I could tell right away that it wasn’t bothering them at all so I got ready to get off oh oh oh oh oh okay walk up good boy okay first successful teamwork from Oliver and champ first 10 ft of it right there [Music] doing so [Music] good good boys good boys good boy walk up away away walk walk walk Oliver Walk Up Walk Up Walk Up get easy easy easy easy easy oh oh now oh now oh Oliver oh oh stand stand stand
stand stand stand easy oh oh oh good boy easy easy easy good boy that was close to a wreck oh okay walk walk up Oliver easy okay so that wasn’t recorded very well but what happened was there was a little creek they were afraid to cross when they jumped across it Oliver’s inside leg got tangled in Champ’s tug so I had to get him to stand still and then be able to reach across his body with my left hand and pick up his side leg and untangle it I hope that was all recorded everybody yep it’s still blinking so
probably was recorded this Trail is usually pretty well open and I don’t have to worry about anything that’s why I chose it and there’s been two trees down already because of the snow and what’s funny is Oliver is normally very willing to just walk and he’s wanting to try today and Champ’s the one who’s just willing to walk so I’m watching the evener there and I think it’s staying pretty even so champ is pulling his weight even though he doesn’t have near the experience that Oliver does so that’s
nice I didn’t know if he would do that or not easy easy easy walk just been working pretty good so far knock on wood easy easy easy easy easy easy away easy easy good easy come by good boys oo that’s pretty hopefully we can get through this next water crossing better than the last one without any jumps Walk Up Walk Up easy away away good boys easy easy walk come by Shall we push our luck and go a little faster [Music] [Music] [Music] I probably will get off and walk up this hill to help them but I’m going to let
them do the first little bit underweight and see if it really does matter it may be so easy for that I don’t have to get off but it may put them under too much of a load for the easy okay get up oh oh yeah I’m got to walk good boys easy camera doesn’t show it but right here is about as steep as a horse wants to walk up without slipping walk jamp [Music] oh okay I got to catch my breath give him a break too soon as they start fidgeting we’ll go that’s steeper than it looks everybody good boys stand
still okay I got my heartbeat back down to about a 100 from 200 so that’s probably helped them I’ll give them a second more if they behave good okay walk up Oliver walk up champ champ walk come by good boys [Music] easy good boys oh oh oh stand oh stand still let him have another breather after that little Hill okay walk on the Missouri fox rer looks like he fits right in with the draft as an individual I love Oliver as much as any horse I have but as a breed I love the Missouri Fox trod they are
such a versatile breed and I’ve made it my goal to make champ an exhibition of how versatile this breed is he’s just a young man here but look how well he works with the draft horse I’m going to teach him to excel at draft horse work in harness I’m going to show him as a high-end Missouri Fox Rider show horse and the breed standard and try to win a world championship on him I want to teach him rainning and Cow Horse work and many and maybe even endurance disciplines and have him in some endurance races someday in future I
really think he’s one of the most versatile horses I have and that’s what’s so great about the breed they’re strong they have endurance they’re versatile and they’re the best trail horse in existence that’s why the breed slogan is to ride one is to own one one of the three reasons and purposes mission statements if you would behind my channel is to propagate the Missouri Fox truck breed and I’m going to build that PR campaign around champ yep champ oh oh come by come by almost split them on that tree there that was
close hope Oliver can fit under that [Music] good boys oh bumbers more trees down should have went left oh well they’ve been pushing through them so [Music] far good boys good boys walk up the loop that I took the boys on today was about 2 and 1/2 miles in circumference and it was all on my parents Farm never had to leave the private property good boy right there trying to balance them out to where they’re both pulling the same amount that’s something they’ll just take experience for them to learn they’re
picked up on it really good for the first time tomorrow I’ll have to do this with champ on the left side and Oliver on the right side easy here you see wver oh now ho oh oh sand got him tangled up again if I can get it at ho oh good boy easy give it here one thing about it you want their feet to be trained when you get in harness ho ho stand still okay walk I train all of my horses to stop by pulling on each leg individually with a rope in the round pin that that avoids panic in these situations away
away what good boys all this way and then find something that’s going to be hard to get through put your head down Oliver good boys they just plowed through that like a like they knew what they were doing good boys Walk Up Walk Up Oliver [Music] walk walk That Walk Up Walk did it that was not easy going down that big of a hill [Music] [Music] now okay everybody we are back and we’re done we did a four mile circle and they were really hot cuz they worked hard so I’ve got blankets on them so they cool
down slowly and this the first time I’ve ever had blankets on either of them I think MH um so I’ll let them cool off for about two hours and then I’ll take the blankets off and put them back out for the night but I think we have done enough now where we can claim victory yeah we’ve got a new Guinness World Record first ever Clyde saale Missouri Fox troter team they worked great together I mean they worked like they’ve done it before it was great good smooth ride they had a lot of obstacles a couple hiccups but all in all they did
good so now I’m going to have to keep after them and really finish them right so if you like that video and you think what I’m doing is cool subscribe and make a comment for us and the best way to support what we’re doing other than liking and subscribing is to join our patreon we put a lot more footage cuz we don’t have to worry about about people clicking off there um if you want to see the the full uncensored takes and longer videos and short little Clips that’s where you can keep up with our
